MRI
We
at Toll Gate Radiology, are pleased to provide one of the areas
most advanced High Field “Short-Bore” MRI systems
available today. This State-of-the-Art scanner offers many new
features and advantages, and is on the cutting edge of technology
and patient comfort.
What
is an MRI?
MRI
stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. An MRI machine scans your
body using a magnetic field and radio waves. These natural forces
produce very high-quality images which enable our radiologists
to see virtually any area inside your body in fine detail. Our
new State-of-the-Art MRI scanner is on the cutting edge of technology
and patient comfort. It’s “short-bore” design
is approximately 1/2 the length of conventional MRI scanners,
yet produces superior image quality and speed. Our MRI unit, in
comparison to a “High-field” Open scanner, offers
the following advantages: faster study times, superior picture
quality, and greater computer software options, resulting in a
more accurate diagnosis. An Open MRI should be reserved for truly
claustrophobic patients or those who are not capable of being
appropriately positioned in a high field machine.
Is
My MRI Safe?
Yes,
the MRI magnetic field and radio waves are harmless to all body
functions. However, they can interact with metal, which is why
special care is taken if you have any metallic implanted devices.
The
Examination
You
will be positioned comfortably on the padded exam table that slides
into the front of the scanner. Exams generally take 15-40 minutes
depending upon the body part being imaged. It is important that
you lie quietly in the same relaxed position throughout the study.
Music
can also be played during your exam, so feel free to bring in
a favorite CD from home or choose from our wide variety of musical
preferences. Once the exam is completed, one of our board-certified
and fellowship-trained radiologists will review the images and
provide a report to your physician.
Please go
to Patient Instruction
section for information on how to prepare for your MRI examination.
